What Did We Get Ourselves Into?

A week into the planning stage of the project, and we've received overwhelming support. Mostly from friends, family, office mates, and random Facebook friends. If you haven't checked our online presence yet, we already have a Facebook Page, a Twitter Profile, a Google Free Site, a (empty for now) Youtube Channel, and an (also empty for now) Instagram Gallery. Keep the love coming! That is where we draw strength from. One week into the planning stage for the concert, reality is starting to hit us unmercifully.

Reality Check

Hadi and Jamar, on separate occasions asked me, "What's in this for you?" That was a very good and valid question. And, I didn't have a good answer to it. I was tempted to execute a discussion on altruism and the Price Equation in order to buy time. But, I was there speechless for more than a second or two. One of the few times in my life I was actually kept silent while awake. I guess I'm just like other countless other Filipinos who would offer aid and compassion for almost nothing in return. A person whose heart breaks easily at the sight of pain and suffering. The best example I could think of at this time would be Nini. She has worked as a volunteer for charity groups most of her life. Her ardent desire to offer support to others brought her to conflict zones and disaster areas. She put her life and limb on the line just to reach out to those in need. I'm sure there are millions of other Ninis out there who share the same vision and passion to help. I only hope they all get to read this masked appeal for assistance.

The crisis in Marawi is not just for Hadi and Jamar to worry about. It is an episode that should get sorted out, not just by the Maranaos and the Muslim people of Mindanao, but by the coming together of every Filipino. Marawi is not just a city in the far-flung south. It is a a place of proud people and ethnic Filipino tradition. Losing Marawi (and I don't mean physically) to the twisted ideologies of the misguided will be a tragedy worse than we can ever imagine. We need to start looking at the big picture act now!

Bite Reality Back

As we were returning to Glorietra 5 from the meeting at SM Aura last week, Jamar quipped, "What did we get ourselves into, bro?" Indeed! What? I replied, with complete audacity: A few weeks from now, we will be asking ourselves, "How the hell did we pull-off something like that?"

Why Not Think Bigger?

Bangon MaraWe V 1.00 Okay, so the original concept was a cozy benefit concert at a posh venue. Initially, I proposed to have the event at 19 East in Muntinlupa. Get four or five bands; charge 500 Pesos at the gate; get someone to sponsor the food and beverage for the artists and volunteers. Solved! No sweat, and 60 big ones (at least) raised for Marawi. It seems Jamar would like to organize something grand. So, we came up with a bigger idea. Why not do it in Amoranto; or maybe The Circuit? The venue in Quezon City may be a more realistic proposal to the one in Makati. The Circuit is just to posh, and the proximity from the Blue Pitch doesn't sit well with the Mancunian Red Devil in me. Then, names of different bands went flying. I was thinking: Holy feces! I will definitely need Andy's help if this is going to push through.
